Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Deputy Warden, the SSA’s working title is Litigation Coordinator. This position requires the following: excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prepare and disseminate critical information timely and accurately, strong organizational skills, attentiveness to detail, thorough understanding of the litigation process, and effectiveness in working with various classifications within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) as well as other governmental agencies, the Attorney General, and the general public.
The Staff Services Analyst plans and prepares the initial documentation for the Attorney General’s office on all cases instituted by inmates. Responsible for processing any new Litigation cases by adding to the Litigation tracking system, create the initial litigation case file, gather signatures for attorney representation, and forwards documents to the Attorney General’s Office, complete declarations and interrogatories. Assist in preparation of cases and completion of the document request. Accept and serve staff subpoenas. Coordinate and process inmate civil legal documents (Staff Notification) and inmate non-criminal subpoenas by logging, assigning via counselor to ensure service and mailing completed. Maintain tracking system on documents served; i.e., employees and inmates. Monitors critical due date on all legal matters in order to ensure institution and staff are in compliance with mandated time frames including public records act requests, subpoenas, small claims court cases and other requested information. Coordinate and gather documents from Investigative Services Unit, Employee Relations Office, Personnel, Return to Work, and submits to the Attorney General’s Office. The SSA provides lead direction to the Office Technician assigned to the Litigation Office.
