GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs chemical analysis of potable water, wastewater influent and effluent, sludge, industrial wastes, and other materialsPerforms a variety of chemical, biochemical, and bacteriological testsUses laboratory equipment and materialsSafely and efficiently conducts chemical analyses and makes evaluative conclusions. Performs routine computations and maintains records, prepares reports, understands and carries out oral and written instructionsEstablishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of workConducts and assists in conducting a variety of chemical, biochemical and bacteriological tests of plant influent and effluent and receiving bodiesAnalyzes a variety of samples, including digester samples, raw sludge samplesRuns tests to determine amounts and degrees of pH, alkalinity, volatile acids, total solids, density, dissolved oxygen, organic material content, colilbrm bacteria, and residual chlorineMay run a variety of chemical and bacteriological tests on industrial wastesOperates a variety of laboratory equipment including pH meters, balances, furnaces, a' toclaves, titrators, incubators, and calculatorsAssists with performing pilot study activitiesMaintains, cleans d cares for laboratory equipment and materialAssists in keeping laboratory records and preparing laboratory reportsCollects water, wastewater, gas, and sludge samples for analysisPerforms other duties as requiredPlease contact Holly Lewis for more information QUALIFICATIONS:High school graduate or equivalent and equivalent to completion of at least twelve semester units in chemistry or bacteriology at an accredited college or university. Some laboratory experience performing chemical analysesKnowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, and related sciences; procedures d materials used in chemical, biochemical, and bacteriological tests and analyses; laboratory safety and equipment and material care and maintenanceAble to enter data into computer spreadsheets and templates Must be able to lift up to a 35-p und container of water from floor level t a height of up to 54 inchesMust be able to stand on feet for up to eight hours a dayMust be able to hear timers ringMust be able to judge color e d-point changes (i.e., not color-blind)Must be free of respiratory problems of a nature that would be aggravated by exposure to chemical fumes that you might expect to find in a laboratory environmentThe work schedule for this position includes weekends and holidays HKA is an EEO Employer and fully cooperates in the enforcement of Federal and State immigration laws.
