Location: Artesia, New Mexico

Description: City of Artesia is at the momment seeking for Court Specialist right now, this position will be presented in New Mexico. Definition: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for all clerical duties as well as general duties as assigned at Artesia Municipal Court.

DUTIES/TASK! S:
This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in the classification.

Enter and file citations.

Receive and post customer payments and daily cash balancing, post cash bonds.

Answer telephone and route messages to appropriate destinations.

Complete a variety of court paperwork including but not limited to indigent applications, payment agreement forms and excuse forms for work or school.

Maintain proper and orderly filing system of court documents.

Maintain list of records for destruction.

Post served subpoenas.

Distribute and pick up papers to and from municipal jail when bailiff is unavailable.

Take care of community service documents and reports.

Print documents such as subpoenas, summons, notice of clearance, suspensions, Order to Show Cause, Hearing notices and other court documents.

Dai! ly posting from jail roster.

Take court mail to post ! office and make receipt deposits to local banks or city hall.

Distribute mail to appropriate destinations in court offices.

Shred documents pursuant to court policy.

Mail abstracts weekly to Santa Fe

Order office supplies and maintain inventory of supplies for municipal court.

Verify warrant list, recall warrants as necessary pursuant to court policy .

Make certified copies of documents as required.

Complete overdue processing daily including DWI compliance, tracking all probationers in regards to DWI school, alcohol screening, community service, ignition interlock, court ordered counseling, and all other court orders.

Purge records and files pursuant to court policy

Cross train in all areas of the court

Some overnight travel (minimal) required to attend training conferences

Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and court training

Works closely with Probatio! n and Parole, Eddy County Detention Center, Alternative Sentencing Unit and all other law enforcement agencies.

Prepare and file criminal complaints for OTSC, FTA, FTP and FTC.

Explain and provide all DWI paperwork to defendants regarding DWI Compliance Order including DWI School, alcohol screening, community service, ignition interlock, court ordered counseling, and all other appropriate programs/sentence ordered by the judge.

Explain and provide paperwork for defendants who have been sentenced to community service, counseling and any other programs ordered by the judge.

Inquire into the background of offenders on criminal and DWI charges, including Triple III, driving record, etc., for the court for pre-sentence hearing.

Obtain paperwork from other courts on prior convictions of DWI and other crimes as directed by Court Administrator or Judge.

Assist in keeping an up to-date contact list of available treatment options ! in the area such as counseling, AA and NA meeting dates, group or indiv! idual counseling programs, anger management and outpatient and inpatient treatment programs for substance abuse

Assist Judge or Court Administrator when needed.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of municipal court proceedings and practices.

Knowledge of basic customer service principles and techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and public.

Ability to follow accepted account/bookkeeping practices and procedures.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.

Skill in responding tactfully and courteously to customer inquiries and complaints.

Skill in using a computerized database to input and retrieve information.

Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid NM Class D or hirer Driver License.

H igh School Diploma or GED certificate required.

Experience equivalent to twelve (12) months full-time general clerical/office support work involving customer relations and bookkeeping duties/responsibilities; OR completion of a post-high school course/program in Office Practices, Bookkeeping or Customer Service/Relations or closely related area may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience.

Physical Functions:
Ability to move or lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Must be able to sit up to four hours at one time, and up to eight hours total per workday.

Must be able to crouch and/or kneel for up to 10 times total per workday.

Must be able to work with arms bent for up to four hours at one time for up to four hours per day.

Must be able to use arms to push/pull with an estimated force of 5 pounds, up to 5 times total per day.

Must be able to use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate equipment and materials needed to perform essen! tial job duties.

Must be able to coordinate use of hands and e! yes in operation of various types of office.

Working Conditions:
Indoor temperature is controlled to maintain comfortable work environment year round. Worker primarily works alone with or without explicit directions from supervisor. Worker consults with one other individual or with small groups of individuals, either on the telephone or in person, on a regular basis.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials:
In performance of office duties, worker uses the following equipment: telephone, computer terminal, computer keyboard, computer printer, typewriter, photocopy machine, fax machine, calculator/adding machine.

Materials and products handled in performance of essential duties include various forms, wide variety of paperwork, writing utensils, and various office supplies.
