A federally-funded research project at the University of Michigan Law School is looking for a qualified case manager who can work with attorneys in the Genesee County Child Advocacy Team (CAT! ), as part of a multidisciplinary team, to represent children ! involved in the child protection system. The candidate that fills this position will collaborate with attorneys who are assigned child welfare cases in Genesee County to assist them in advocating for their clients.

Specifically, the case manager on the team will:

  • Work collaboratively with attorneys to advocate for their clients
  • Visit with child/youth clients
  • Conduct investigations and interview collateral parties (bio-parents, foster parents, agency
workers, etc.)

  • Provide non-legal perspective to the case
  • Advise on what recommendations should be made
  • Follow up on court orders
The case manager will assist the advocacy efforts of the CAT attorneys and will not supplant the duties of the responsible child welfare agency such as the Department of Human Services or one of its contracting agencies. The case manager will support the attorneys advocacy but would not be providing! direct case services to the clients. The case manager will also be required to strictly abide by the research study protocols, which will include participating in a multidisciplinary team on some but not all of the cases that are assigned to the CAT attorneys. Required Qualifications*
The successful applicant will have experience working with children and families involved in the court system, preferably in Genesee County, MI. Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to work as part of a team. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is for a sponsored research project and is contingent on continued funding.
