The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney (Office), an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer is seeking applicants for an “At Will” (not covered ) Assistant Trial Attorney position for the Special Victims Unit in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pursuant to the New Mexico District Attorney’s Compensation Plan, the position of Assistant Trial Attorney is “At Will” and serves at the pleasure of the District Attorney.

Purpose:

This position provides for the prosecution of felony child physical abuse; child sexual abuse; adult sexual assault and high lethality domestic violence cases. Attorney will vertically prosecute cases from intake to final disposition. In addition to case-related activities, prosecutor will be required at time to attend meetings/events and assist law enforcement and attorneys outside of the division. There will be times when the prosecutor will be required to work outside of normal business hours and/or during lunch to attend events/meetings and on-call activities.

Working conditions:

Work is performed in office, courtroom and community environments. Some physi cal effort and travel may be required. Incumbent may be required to work under stressful situations and/or conditions with complex sensitive material. We work as a team and everyone exhibits a willingness to assist coworkers and perform duties and tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Position requires advanced knowledge and skills in the areas of criminal prosecution; rules of evidence and rules of criminal procedure; an ability to learn and apply knowledge in the area of prosecutions involving special victims; an openness to guidance; ability to engage in positive public relations; organization; basic computer skills including working knowledge of office systems; fully effective trial skills; ability to draft legal documents; ability to work effectively with other agencies within the criminal justice system; ability to communicate effectively; ability to research/analyze information and situations; ability to multi-task; maintain a profess ional appearance; remain professional in highly stressful situations.

Requirements: J.D. degree and current license to practice law in New Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications: Legal experience totaling up to at least one (1) year.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Resume, writing sample and three professional references must be received at the Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney.
