Overview The Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office (Office) invites applications for a Strategic Crime Analyst position. Under direction of th e Office’s Lead Investigator, the Strategic Crime Analyst performs detailed professional-level analytical work in the area of crime analysis and data-driven prosecution.

Responsibilities Investigate, analyze and process large and diverse data sets using quantitative and qualitative methods to produce a complete data model of crime and prosecution trends in Bernalillo County. Compile, merge and manage criminal justice, socioeconomic, demographic and geographic data for complex statistical and predictive analyses. Prepare and present written reports, presentations, and detailed statistical reports, including charts, graphs and exhibits to trial attorneys and decision makers. Conduct geographic information systems (GIS) analyses to generate crime maps, and perform spatial analyses of hot spots and crime drivers. Perform case level investigations and link analysis using diverse data sources. Study current literature on research methodology and law enfo rcement issues, and make appropriate recommendations for improvements in crime analysis and data-driven prosecution practices. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Ability to perform advanced statistical analysis of large datasets, including merging disparate data. Knowledge of geographic information systems, ability to perform complex spatial analysis, and produce clear informative maps representing results. Knowledge of analytic software applications such as R-Studio (or comparable). Knowledge of SQL.

Knowledge of spreadsheets. Knowledge of cell phone data extractions. Ability to identify, research and gather relevant information from a variety of sources; read and interpret complex written materials; analyze and evaluate data, procedures, interrelated processes and other information; formulate conclusions and/or alternatives and develop effective recommendations. Ability to prepare well-organized and ac curate documents such as reports, memos, and correspondence; synthesize ideas and factual information into clear and logical written statements. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and expectations, communicate effectively and work collaboratively with law enforcement professionals.

Qualifications BA/BS from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as social network analysis, graph theory, public or business administration, management, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting, criminology or a comparable field. A minimum of 2 years of experience experience performing professional-level analytical work in one or more of the following functional areas: complex crime analysis,complex budget analysis, development and administration; complex financial/fiscal analysis and reporting; development and evaluation of complex management/administrative policy; complex e conomic analysis; or complex network analysis. SUBSTITUTION: Candidates may substitute up to 2 years of the required education with additional qualifying experience in crime analysis,budget analysis,financial analysis and reporting, or network analysis. One year of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units. Demonstrated strong technical and interpersonal skills. Strong decision making, problem solving and strategic thinking skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications MBA, MA, MS or higher graduate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as social network analysis, graph theory, public or business administration, management, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting, criminology or comparable field. Professional experience in a law enforcement agency as a crime analyst.

The Office evaluates approximately 25,000 cases a year that are referred to the Office by law enforcement agencies.
