Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World Law Clerk THIS SCA POSITION PAYS $24.45/HOUR WITH AN ADDITIONAL $4.27/HOUR PROVIDED FOR HEALTH AND WELFARE Job Description: Performs complex legal research for the trial staff in support of district operations. Prepares draft legal docu ments, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc. Screens documents for privilege and assists attorneys with all phases of litigation. Reviews investigative reports and referrals from other federal, tribal, and state investigative agencies for probable cause, determines the need for additional information and evidence, and plans comprehensive approaches to obtain required information and evidence.
Conducts related research and drafts and prepares legal proceedings necessary to commence criminal cases, subsequent motions, orders, pretrial diversion agreements, plea documentation and other pleadings. Performs a variety of tasks associated with all facets of case preparation and providing trial support to AUSAs by performing one or more of the following: Briefs AUSA prior to hearings by reviewing pertinent facts, issues, and case law. Assists AUSA in pretrial preparation by preparing, reviewing, and organizing discovery; notifying, interviewing, and managing witne sses; and researching case law. Receives transcripts of depositions and hearings and prepares summaries to assist AUSAs.
Prepares presentations for court proceedings by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits. Requirements: Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a government security clearance to include an extensive background investigation. Requires Juris Doctorate (JD) or equivalent graduate degree with legal emphasis. Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources. An Equal Opportunity Employer.
