The Australian Government’s Women in STEM Ambassador, Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith, is responsible for increasing the participation of women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies and careers across Australia. Supported by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the Women in STEM Ambassador’s team works to address gender equity issues across all STEM disciplines in the education and training, research, academic and industry sectors.

The Digital Content Officer will implement digital marketing campaigns, write and design content for social media and maintain the Women in STEM Ambassador website. The successful candidate will be tasked with the growth of digital audiences for the Women in STEM Ambassador and delivering important equity messages to key influencers. They will support communications for the ‘Future You’ national awareness-raising initiative that is challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers to STEM careers for children, especially girls, aged 8-12 years.

NOTE:

The Women in STEM Ambassador team works flexibly, including the option for flexible hours. This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in Australia or be based in Sydney with on-campus and work-from-home options.

About the role

  • $91k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 6 months (with possible extension based on performance and funding)
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The role reports to Associate Professor Lisa Williams, Chief Investigator and has no direct reports.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy in conjunction with the Women in STEM Ambassador team, that is aligned with the Women in STEM Ambassador projects, initiatives and brand.
  • Proactively promote the activities and initiatives of the Women in STEM Ambassador by maintaining an engaging and professional website and digital media channels.
  • Monitor and report on content metrics to determine effectiveness of activities and ensure content is being fully utilised. Develop solutions to improve performance and engagement.
  • Liaise with external agencies as required to curate multimedia content, ensuring content is strategic and effectively leveraged across all channels.
  • Work within the Office of Women in STEM Ambassador to identify opportunities, develop internal briefs, and report on activities and targets.
  • Ensure all media content meets relevant style standards and brand requirements.
  • Other communication duties as directed by the Principal Investigator of the Women in STEM Ambassador grant
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Professional experience developing and implementing branding and communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage digital media channels and develop content that is accurate, impactful, engaging and consistent.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high-quality website using Wordpress/Elementor/Jupiter X.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong understanding of target audiences and high-impact, contextual messaging to key audiences.
  • Knowledge of content marketing techniques, Google analytics and SEO techniques, and social media platforms for relevant content development.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of communication requirements for equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, policy and/or programs.
  • Proven ability to analyse and report on effectiveness of communications projects.
  • A performance-oriented approach with demonstrated ability to act with a high level of independence, initiative, problem solving, analysis and judgment to provide accurate and appropriate outcomes.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
