About the Position: You will serves as the legal assistance an! d claims attorney in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate providing advice and assistance to military and civilian clients. Legal assistance and advice will be provided for all types of personal matters.

You will serve as a legal assistance attorney and a claims attorney in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and advising on all matters involving legal advice and assistance to eligible military and civilian clients. Work involves cases or legal problems dealing with a wide variety of personal matters (e.g., domestic relations, insurance, wills and estates, survivor benefits, voting, administrative military issues, commercial contracts, creditor-debtor disputes, purchase/sale of personal or real property, personal injury and other torts, and immigration and naturalization.) You provide legal advice, opinio! ns and assistance in interpretation of laws, regulations, stat! utes and directives concerning claims on behalf of and against the United States; reviews claims and drafts litigation reports when necessary. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualification requirements and the extent to which their application shows possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with the position.
1. Knowledge of Legal Assistance, Personnel Claims, Military Claims and Tort Claims.
2. Experience researching, analyzing clear and concise legal documents, memoranda, opinions, drafts of legal opinions, documents, and proposed regulations.
3. Ability to provide both oral and written legal advice and assistance in various areas of legal assistance, personnel claims, tort, affirmative claims and Magistrate Court.
4. Ability to write clear and concise legal documents.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE INFORMATION: There is no for! mal rating system for applying veteran's preference to attorney appointments in the excepted service; however, the Department of the Army considers veteran's preference eligibility a positive factor for attorney hiring. Applicants eligible for veteran's preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documents (e.g., DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to their submissions. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: If currently employed as an attorney by the Federal Gov! ernment you must have completed 1 year at the GS-12 grade level or equi! valent within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement, or previously served at the same or higher grade as the position being filled.

Education: An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
Bar membership: Applicant must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Experience: Applicant must have two or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law de! gree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.
