Under direction of the assigned supervisor or substance abuse technician-lead (SAT-L) will perform technical duties and functions associated ! with the treatment of substance abuse (drug and alcohol). Under guidance will assist in providing detoxification and treatment services to clients within the program
Duties and Responsibilities
Under guidance of the (SAT-L) will obtain relevant information about clients through interview, assessment and case history; assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery; observe, intervene and report client adherence to program goals and objectives.
Work in conjunction with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and other activities utilized for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
Process new clients, i.e., issuance of clothing, orientation to the rules of facilities and assist clients with daily activities, events and informational literature.
Under the assistance of the lead technician, will provide education to individuals and groups in the community and facilitate group present! ations and workshops.
Transport clients to appointmen! ts and other service locations outside of assigned program.
Under the assistance of the lead technician, will prepare case histories and document behavioral incidents through observation of clients and maintain confidential records.
Inform the assigned supervisor and/or the (SAT-L) of any changes, adjustments or complications with department protocols.
Receive guidance and training from Substance Abuse Technician â€" Lead staff within the division.
May receive and respond to routing inquiries on behalf of the department.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.

High school diploma or GED.
Any combination of education and/or experience totaling three (3) years’ experience working in a substance abuse field, healthcare, law enforcement, emergency management, corrections or related field.
Experience as a Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) helpful.
Knowledge of operations and activities of an addiction treatment program.
Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse theory and treatment; knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to client rights.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with administration, subordinates and the general public.
Ability to analyze situations in a rational, mature and confident manner and to remain calm under stressful situations.
Ability to utilize discretion and independent judgment; ability to maintain confidentiality of clie! nt records at all times.
Skilled in the use of computers to ge! nerate reports and maintain records.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to write reports.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.

Employee may be required to work different shifts and program reassignments.
Working Conditions
Essential job duties are performed indoors in climate-controlled environment.
Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.
Works alone primarily, with or without directions. Works with groups and with a select team at times.

Must be able to lift and carry items such as paperwork and files.
Must be able to crouch and kneel as necessary.
Must be able to use hands and fingers in order to grasp/manipulate various equipment and materials needed to perform essential duties.
Must be able to coordinate use of hands and eyes in operation of equipment, such as computer and calculator.
