Position Summary:
Under the Chair's supervision, provides and oversees the design and implementation of public information and media programs, services, and activities for the department. Develops, writes, and prepares various informational materials for publication. This also includes composing, preparing, and screening written documentation and correspondence for the Chair's office. Serves as unit liaison and coordinator on public and media relations issues; responds, as appropriate, to both internal and external requests for public information. The public information rep also provides confidential administrative support overseeing day-to-day management of the office and serving as a primary point of direct contact with! other offices, individuals, and external institutions and age! ncies on a range of issues relating to office management and procedures. Assists in the coordination, supervision, and completion of special projects.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Project planning and management skills.
  • Working knowledge of office management principles and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Records maintenance and database management skills.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bach! elor's degree with 6 months to 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ten to fifteen years of experience working with university communications and marketing groups as well as external public relations and media outlets.
  • Ten to fifteen years of experience working in an academic environment serving as liaison with offices and departments campus-wide, interacting with individuals at all levels within the university and external institutions and agencies on a range of specified issues.
  • Ten to fifteen years of administrative and office management experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the promotion and tenure process.
  • Experience processing J-1 and H-1 visas. Knowledge of faculty contracts policies and accounts payable policies when hiring International coll! eagues, scholars, and vendors.
  • Experience working with immigra! tion lawyers
  • Experience using the Banner system
  • Grant writing and submission experience. Working knowledge of Cayuse.
