1383), located in Technical Area V (TA-V) at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), is responsible for ensuring that risks associated with operating TA-V nuclear facilities are analyzed, communicated, and accepted by the governing authorities. This involves selecting and evaluating nuclear safety controls to ensure protection of the general public, workers, visitors, and the TA-V staff. In addition, the Department ensures that the nuclear facility39s safety documentation complies with federal law, Department of Energy (DOE) requirements and SNL standards and expectations. Org.
1383 is also responsible for implementing the Sandia co! rporate Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Program. Job Summary The Nuclear Safety Analysis manager must demonstrate strong leadership necessary to direct personnel, acquire and allocate funding, and drive difficult issues to closure.
The manager must exhibit commitment to a strong nuclear safety culture, have a questioning attitude, and direct technical and administrative staff to ensure programmatic objectives are safely and securely met. Provide leadership in areas of research and engineering to further nuclear safety and reactor design. Be an engaged member of the Laboratory management team, contributing to the strategic planning! , budget formulation and development of long term goals. Oversee work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering and requires a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles.
Oversee the creation and application of scientific and engineering methods used for nuclear reactor design and radiation sciences. Lead scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems. Oversee physical and computational simulation, analysis and evaluation to establish design criteria and nuclear safety limits. Oversee and manages Sandia39s scientific programs from fundamental research through development and demonstration.
Demonstrate full spectrum leadership and serve as the primary interface with senior Sandia and NNSA management, program owners, and the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board on cognizant issues. Act as a project manager for cross-functional p! rojects that ensures facilities are compliant with US federal law and i! ndustry standards. Oversee and manage the development and review of nuclear safety cases and reactor licensing applications. This includes the identification of hazards, establishing hazard categorization based regulatory requirements and the performance complex accident analyses to identify appropriate operating limits and controls.
Oversee the Sandia Nuclear Criticality Safety Program and ensure its compliance with applicable requirements and standards. Manage the execution of safety basis activities including, development of 10 CFR 830 compliant Documented Safety Analysis, Technical Safety Requirements and the Unreviewed Safety Question process. Oversees and manages members of the workforce, within the organization, including hiring, professional development, and assessment and performance management, consistent with the mission of the organization.
Counsels and assists employees and management on government legislation, U.S. Department of Energy contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories39 policies or procedures to ensure compliance. Required --At least a Master39s! degree in science or engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience. --At least seven(7) years of experience in nuclear operations, high hazard operations or nuclear safety analysis. -- Knowledge of and experience with nuclear facility operations, high hazard experiments andor research reactors --Experience in interacting with regulatory agencies. Desired --At least 15 years of experience in nuclear operations, high hazard operations or nuclear safety analysis, five of which were in a management role --A Masters or PhD in engineering or science.
