Under general direction of the assigned program manager/supervisor will provide addition counseling services in concurrence with their! scope of licensure to clients at various programs operated by the department. Will be responsible for delivery of substance abuse treatment services in a manner consistent with the departmentâs treatment modality.
Duties and Responsibilities
Gather relevant client treatment information through assessments and case histories; evaluate information findings to determine client substance abuse treatment intensity needs.
Formulate an individualized program structure for the treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse clients.
Provide clinically-based guidance/supervision to other addition professionals of lower licensure levels within the department.
Provide therapeutic interventions as appropriate for substance abusing clients in crisis situations.
Refer clients to other treatment/supportive need services psychological evaluations, other treatment arenas, and/or support groups.
Conduct individual and group co! unseling sessions as appropriate to licensure level and within! the guidelines of the departmentâs clinical structure.
Provide substance abuse treatment oriented educationally-based group facilitation following guidelines and protocols consistent with the departmentâs chosen treatment modality.
Initiate and maintain accurate case files; document notes relevant to provided care; maintain record of referrals and related forms.
Prepare documents for presentation; prepare detailed client progress reports as required.
Maintain ethical standards of practice, professional competence, conduct and integrity, confidentiality, responsibility to clients and responsibility to the professional per New Mexico occupational and professional licensing board standards.
Attend staff meetings and team conferences as assigned.

Bachelor degree in counseling, social work or related field, plus one (1) year in substance abuse counseling or related field.
OR any combination of post-secondary education and/or experience totaling five (5) years in substance abuse counseling and/or substance abuse treatment.
Current and valid New Mexico licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Professional Mental Health Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW); or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) is required. A provisional license from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department may conditionally serve to satisfy the li! censing requirement. The provisional license shall only serve in meetin! g the licensure requirement for as long as it remains valid. Failure to maintain an active licensure status shall violate the conditional employment with Bernalillo County.
Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse theory and treatment; a wide range of treatment modalities; therapeutic program services and crisis intervention techniques...
Knowledge of community-based programs for substance abuse and other human services and operations and activities of an addiction treatment program.
Ability to develop, implement, evaluate and modify therapeutic programs and services.
Analyze hazardous situations in a rational, mature and confident manner and to act effectively and remain calm under stressful situations.
Skilled in the use of computers to generate reports and maintain records.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to write reports containing technical information.
Ability to int! eract effectively and professionally with county officials, administration, subordinates, co-workers and the general public.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.

A current provisional licensure from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department in any of the above-mentioned license types may serve to satisfy the license requirement. Working Conditions
The majority of essential duties are p! erformed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
Indo! or working surface is even and may be carpeted or tiled.
Indoor surfaces are typically dry and may involve the use of stairs.
Work hazards or potential work hazards include those of a correctional facility environment with exposure to noise and dangerous situations that could involve serious bodily injury and other health hazards.
Works alone primarily, with or without directions. Works with a group at times and with a select team at times.
Flexible work hours may be required.
Equipment, Tools and Materials
Utilizes computers and communication equipment on a daily basis.
Equipment typically used to perform administrative duties include the telefax machine, typewriter, photocopy machine, and pager.
Materials and products typically handled in the performance of administrative duties include files, forms, reports, various other forms of paperwork and a variety of basic office supplies and equipment.
Ma! y handle first aid and oxygen equipment on an occasional basis.

Must be able to use legs to lift, restrain, or drag individuals as needed.
Must be able to use legs to maintain balance in the performance of essential duties, sometimes in emergency situations.
Must be able to use hands and fingers to grasp/manipulate equipment, persons, and materials as needed in perfor! mance of essential duties.
Must be able to coordinate the use of hands and eyes in the operation of equipment, and the performance of other essential duties.
